Board members:

Alex Phakathi

Alex has more than 15 years of commercial property experience. Ten years were spent as a senior property executive, and five years were spent in corporate. He is one of the prominent leaders in the commercial property sector in South Africa. He is the Past-President of the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) and currently serves on Board of the Property Sector Charter and is one of the founding board members of the Green Buildings Council of Southern Africa.

He is currently the acquisitions and disposal executive at Redefine Properties, the second biggest listed property loan stock company. Previously, Alex was the Managing Director of Pareto Limited, an unlisted property loan stock company with a portfolio of shopping centres and hotels. Alex's participation in the property charter dates back to 2006. Previously, Alex participated as a part-time lecturer in property investments at Wits university. He has a Master of Commerce degree from Wits University.

Molly Gallant

Molly has a BComm Degree in Economics. She is a Certified Chartered Practitioner In Real Estate (CPRE) with an NQF7 Qualification with 17 years of experience in the South African commercial property industry.

She is Managing Director and Co-owner of Ryden International Property Consultants and Zabasi Properties, both of which are 100% Black owned companies.

Her areas of specialization are in Commercial Property Leasing and Consulting, Commercial Property Development Consulting, Property Management, Facilities Management, Utilities Management Strategies and Lease Audits.

She is a member of the Land Affairs Board, Property Sector Charter Council, SAPOA Sectional Title Committee, SAPOA Office Vacancy Committee, Executive member and Founder of the South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners and Executive member and Founder of the Association of Women in Property.

Johalna Minnaar

I wrote my Estate Agency Affairs Board exam in 1985 while being a Mathematics High School teacher. Throughout my career I have been exposed to various disciplines of the industry including: Property Portfolio, Sectional Title and Commercial management, Residential and Commercial sales, Residential Developments, Commercial and Residential leasing.

At present I am the National Business Development Manager at Rawson Properties, chair the IEASA North region and am the IEASA National President.


Nikita Sigaba

Nikita holds a MSc in Finance from Brunel University, England and Chartered Accountant by profession. He is a member of the Institute of Directors and South African Institute of Chartered Accountancy. He is currently a Chief Risk Officer at Estate Agency Affairs Board having served as an Acting Chief Executive Officer for a period of six months. He has held Senior and Management positions in Financial Management and Internal Audit . He also has lectured Business Administration courses at the University of Natal.

James William Andrew Templeton

Lydia Bici

Current positions

Ms Lydia Bici is the Deputy Director-General: Construction and Property Policy Regulation in the Department of Public Works.

Position last held/ Career/ Membership/ Other Activities Ms Lydia Bici is the former Chief Director of the Office for Public Enterprises, where she had to advice the Government on restructuring of State-Owned Enterprises and to monitor the performance of assigned State-Owned Enterprises. Ms Bici has also served the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature as an ANC whip, Chairperson of the Legislature's Budget Working Group, as well as Member of the Finance, Public Accounts and Economic Affairs Portfolio Committees. Her involvement in both the Finance and Public Accounts Portfolio Committees has enabled her to gain invaluable experience in the field of public accounting. Among the key highlights of her experience is the development of a training manual for Members of Parliament nationally on Public Finance by a Steering Committee of the Association of Public Accounts Committee (APAC) of which she was a member. She has served as a Board Member representing the National Empowerment Fund at the Sun Air (Pty) Ltd. Ms Bici has also held a Director's position at the Amatola Local Business Service Centre, which is a Section 21 Company established in terms of the Eastern Cape Government legislation to assist in the establishment of SMME's.

Banking sector:
Ms Bici has twelve years' experience in the banking sector, having worked as a Business Development Officer at the Future Bank Limited and as an Accounts Officer at the Standard Bank of SA, LTD.

D Nkomo

Mr Nkomo has vast experience in property development and management. He is a Tribunal Member of the Gauteng Development Tribunal. The Tribunal serves under the Gauteng Province and was enacted under the Development Facilitation Act with the express purpose of fast-tracking development. The Tribunal sits on occasions when there are applications, which are lodged in terms of the Development Facilitation Act.

He is also a partime Lecturer / Facilitator at the Wits Business School where he handles modules like; Strategy Management, Performance Management, Supply Chain and Stakeholder Management.

In addition, Mr Nkomo held chaired various Boards appointed by various National Ministers, including. The most recent are outlined below: -

He is also a Council and Executive Committee member of the South African Council of Professional Valuers Profession. He is currently serving the second term of three years. He is the recent former chairman of the South African Estate Agents Affairs Board. He has served in the Board for the past six (6) years, of which he was Chairman three (3) years. Appointed by National Minister of Trade and Industry, the Board has two major functions, namely, to oversee the Estate Agents Industry as the Regulatory Authority, as well as to act as Consumer Protector in areas in which Estate Agents deal with the public.

He is also a former Chairman of the Northern Province & Gauteng Immigration Boards. These Boards are appointed by the Minister of Home Affairs to preside on applications of Aliens who intend residing in South Africa for various purposes. The Board is an Autonomous entity that oversees all applications from all the Regional and the Head Office of Home affairs.

Apart from that, Mr Nkomo has consulted in various industries since the inception of his company, Cutting Edge Consultants (Pty) Ltd. He has consulted for both the private and public sectors, notably in the Tourism industry.

Mr. Nkomo has a B Sc degree and an MBA from the Wits Business School.


  K. T. Matlala

Thomas Kholoro Matlala is currently the Director of Matreal Property Services in Johannesburg. He serves as the President of South African Institute for Black Property Practitioners and is a board member of the Property Sector Charter Council. Mr. Matlala was part of a team that started the following companies: N3 Toll Road Company, etv, and Cell C- which is the 3rd largest cell phone company in South Africa.

Among Thomas's recognized professional work is his work with Lawyers for Human Rights, JHI, Transnet, Umbambo holdings and Inani Real Asset Management.

Thomas's past and current directorships include, N3 Toll Road Concession Company, Ubambo Investment Company, Matreal Property Services, Inani Realty Property fund, Asakhe Realty Property Fund, Lighthouse Security and South African Institute of Black Property Practitioners.
